Mental health support

Support to live a meaningful life.

We support adults aged 18 to 65 living with a diagnosed mental illness, or experiencing mental health concerns. Our Recovery Partners work alongside you to build a recovery plan around your goals — focused on what you can do, not what you can't.

Our approach

Recovery, led by you.

Our services are underpinned by the principles of the recovery framework — a person-centred approach that keeps choice and control with the individual.

We identify strengths, set goals with you, and focus on enablement. Our Mental Health Recovery Partners work alongside clients to develop a recovery plan based on their own goals and needs, in a residential setting or out in the community.

Our mental health services are accredited through IHCA Certification, meaning we're independently assessed against comprehensive National Standards.

Strengths first

We start from what you can do and build outwards, rather than working down a list of diagnoses.

Your goals, your plan

Your Recovery Partner develops the plan with you, and revisits it as things shift.

Safe and quality assured

High-quality support in a safe environment, with continuous improvement built into how we work.

Diversity respected

We embrace diversity and stay respectful and understanding of difference, in every interaction.

Mental health services and support

Three programs.

Residential recovery support, in-home support across the Perth metro area, and a program for the unpaid carers holding it all together.

Residential recovery support, 24/7.

Community Options is a non-clinical residential mental health program offering 24/7 care and recovery support for people aged 18 to 65 who have had a long-term stay in hospital due to mental illness.

It's a transitional recovery program — accommodation, not a home for life. Using the recovery approach, our Recovery Partners work alongside clients as they relearn or gain the skills to move back to living independently in the community.

The program receives significant clinical support from the North Metropolitan Mental Health Service and the Royal Perth Bentley Group Mental Health Service through a collaborative partnership.

Who it's for.

  • People living with persistent and severe mental illness.
  • People who need ongoing clinical support from public mental health services, a private psychiatrist or a GP.
  • People who have had extended inpatient admissions of three months or more, or repeated difficulty maintaining a place in other supported accommodation.
Referrals come from stakeholders. We don't waitlist for Community Options — a new referral package is needed for each vacancy period.

Support in your own home.

Our Community Mental Health program offers in-home support to people aged 18 to 65 living in their own homes across the Perth metropolitan area, funded by the Mental Health Commission.

Our team works alongside you to develop and reach your personal recovery goals — gaining, maintaining or relearning skills, and building the community support networks that make a real difference.

This program runs during business hours every weekday. There is no weekend service.

Who it's for.

  • People who self-refer, or are referred by a GP or mental health clinical team.
  • People whose primary diagnosis is a chronic and persistent mental health condition.
  • Adults aged between 18 and 65.
  • People with ongoing external clinical support.
  • People living in the Perth metropolitan area.

Support for the person caring.

Caring for someone living with mental health challenges touches everything — work, money, friendships, your own physical and mental health. Many people in this role don't think of themselves as a carer at all.

Our Family and Carer Support Program gives unpaid carers support, information, education and skill development to help them in the role — and some hope on the harder days.

This program runs during business hours every weekday. There is no weekend service.

Who it's for.

  • People who self-refer, or are referred by a GP or mental health clinical team.
  • Unpaid carers of someone aged 18 to 65 whose primary diagnosis is a chronic and persistent mental health condition, and who has ongoing clinical support.
  • Carers living in the Perth metropolitan area.

How is each site staffed?

Community Options is staffed 24/7, with two to three staff members on each morning and afternoon shift. Overnight, two staff are rostered: one active through the night, and one on a sleep shift available to help as needed.

Do I need to submit a referral form?

Yes — each program has its own form. Email NEEDS INPUT and our team will send you the Community Options, Community Mental Health or Family and Carer referral form.

We don't waitlist clients for Community Options. If you've been referred before, a new referral package is needed for each vacancy period.

What's included in the accommodation?

A furnished bedroom in a fully furnished home, groceries and toiletries (clients receive a weekly voucher to do their own shopping), utilities, and house and yard maintenance. There's a television in the common areas and an outdoor area.

The costs of mental health care

Funded, with one fee.

All of our mental health services are funded through the Mental Health Commission. We work in collaboration with the Commission to help people living with mental health conditions stay in the community and out of hospital.

Community Options is also licensed by the Department of Health's Licensing and Accreditation Regulatory Unit.

Free of charge

Our Community Mental Health and Family and Carer programs are offered at no cost, fully funded by the Mental Health Commission.

I spent 14 years living in the community home and the staff were very good — constantly encouraging me. When I needed to move into aged care I was in two minds, but we got packing together, sorting out stuff. They're very nice. Katie Hagan — Community Options client
